AI Literacy: Empowering You to Understand AI
When working with generative AI for images, the prompt is your design blueprint. The model does not “see” what you imagine. Instead, it interprets the words you provide and generates a result based on patterns it has learned from training data. Think of prompting as a bridge between imagination and output. Prompting is practice: the more precise you are, the better the AI can bring your idea to life.
The quality of your output depends directly on how clearly you translate your mental image into text. A vague prompt often produces generic or unfocused results. A carefully constructed prompt specifies the style, subject, atmosphere, and composition that the AI should combine. Consider the details that you want to envision before creating it.

Who Owns AI-Generated Images?

When you create an image witha diffusion model like DALL·E or Mid-journey, the copyright rules are different from traditional photography or art.

You, as the user, have the rights to use and reproduce the images you generate.
OpenAI does not claim ownership of your outputs.

How You Can Use the Images
You can use them for personal, educational, or commercial purposes.
You may publish them on websites, presentations, or printed material.
You can modify, edit, or combine them with other material.

Important Limits
You must not use generated images in ways that break the law or violate OpenAI’s use policies (for example, disinformation, harassment, or harmful content).
If an image closely imitates a real person, logo, or brand, using it commercially can raise legal issues (such as trademark or publicity rights).
Since copyright laws differ between countries, you should always be cautious if the image strongly resembles an existing artwork or photograph.

In Practice
Think of AI-generated images as open for you to use freely, but with a responsibility to check context. For teaching, research, or creative projects, they are safe to use. For commercial products or advertising, you should double-check if the image could be confused with someone else’s protected work.
